In the Oil & Gas sector, mainly in upstream plants where no energy is available, gas turbines are the first choice as source of energy. In this paper, we will get an overview of the main characteristics and differences between two most common gas turbine types in the O&G sector, heavy duty and aero-derivative types. This information will allow the rotating machine engineer to select the more suitable machine for the environment and service where the gas turbine is involved
